In 1947 a couture designer by the name of Achille Maramotti began designing stylish clothing and in 1951 he launched the House of Max Mara. He employed such people as Karl Lagerfeld and Dolce & Gabbana. The company remains in the hands of the family still and Achille has been on the Forbes Rich List in 2005. He was deemed to be one of the worlds richest men. They like to maintain a veil of secrecy about the goings-on of the company because their clothing designs are exquisite, they know they will be stolen in a heartbeat.
