Is it OK to wear sandals with tights? And Sandals with Socks?

To wear or not to wear sandals with tights. That’s the question many of you may be asking yourself as you get ready for the arrival of Summer. On the one hand, we all want to feel comfy and cool when it’s warm, but going bare leg isn’t an option for many people. We know for a fact that many people out there wear hosiery all year round. This is what you have to take into account to wear sandals with tights (and, of course, sandals with socks) in style.

How to wear sandals with tights

Oroblu Flower Daisy Tights

When you have the right pair of tights, it doesn’t really matter if you wear them with flat shoes, trainers, high heels or stripped sandals. They will look as amazing no matter the heels or the style! Look at the Oroblu Daisy Tights above. Gorgeous style, right? Here you have a perfect example of how a great pair of tattoo-printed tights can look great with heeled sandals. Now imagine them with ankle boots. Wouldn’t they still look beautiful?

– Wear something you truly love!

The ultimate tip to wearing tights with sandals is looking natural. To do so, you should wear hosiery you feel comfortable wearing. When one feels comfortable, everyone around notices that self-confidence. If you are into fishnets, wear fishnets. If you prefer polka dot tights, just wear them with sandals! What about if you are a fan of lace tights? Go for it!

Look at these patterned tights above. Don’t they just look amazing with those sandals? These are the kind of tights you can wear day and night, too. From the office to the pub!

– Sheer better than opaque. Colourful better than simply black:

We know a good pair of black opaque tights can be life-saver, but you have many other chances to wear them around the year. Why not going for sheer styles, instead? After all, you don’t need to layer up in summer. This is the summer for coloured tights: red, yellow, Emerald green, pink… all bright colours! At the same time, though, pastel colours are also on trend: mint, peach, sky blue and pale pink are right on the spot! We, of course, have them all!

Is it better to wear sandals with toeless hosiery?

Not really. If you are looking for a natural look, sometimes sandal-toe hosiery can work better than toeless tights. It really depends on the sandals you’ll be wearing:

  • Toeless Tights: Better with sandals with a thick strap over the toes, slides and other peep-toe styles:

  • Sandal toe tights: Can you see the edges of your toeless tights? Then it’s better to choose sandal toe tights, this is, those tights without reinforced toes. If you go for ultra sheer tights, only those looking closely at your toes will notice the difference. We’d avoid wearing reinforced tights with sandals.

What about socks? Is it OK to wear socks with sandals?

Yes, it is totally acceptable to wear socks with sandals. Not only ankle highs but also thicker socks, such as the white sporty ones. Fishnet socks, patterned styles and see-through styles, with florals and other details, are on trend. Jazzy styles with funky prints or bright colours, too. We know this style isn’t for everyone, but, if you dare to wear them, you have plenty of cute ankle highs and socks to choose from at UK Tights!

I’m a CD and I wear very sheer pantyhose with my high heeled sandals, I love the feel and the look. And I get a lot of looks, wish I love. I’ve had some women make some nice comments! I love that.

We chose nice-looking pictures and hosiery styles, but unfortunately, we cannot ask the manufacturers to shoot them in every single shoe style. All of them will look amazing with sandals, just like high heels.

Personally I find tights look very sexy with sandals, people should wear whatever they are comfortable with, I wear tights with sandals allot in the summer, also I wear tights with shorts all the time in the summer and I dont think that anyone even notices, people are in their own little worlds.

Socks with heels is such an uber cute look, very sexy and girlie. As a guy, I can’t help but notice and admire any girl dressed like that.

What about socks with sheer tights? I saw a young woman sitting on a bench on a train platform at the end of last summer and she had sheer tights OVER coloured ankle socks. At first I didn’t even realize she was wearing tights because they were very sheer and skin toned, but the fine mesh over the socks gave it away. I found it a curiously sexy look. Other than that, she was sporting a light and short summer dress with mid heeled leather lace up shoes. She was an attractive woman and could carry the look, but sheer tights over coloured socks?

We’d probably do it all the way around: First the sheer tights and, on the top, coloured socks. Maybe she dressed up on a rush… surely it doesn’t feel like the most comfortable leg style.
      Thanks for your comment!

I don’t know why some people keep saying that you can’t wear open toe heels/sandals and pantyhose together. I think open toe heels/sandals look great and very sexy with sheer toe ultra sheer pantyhose. Only thing that needs to be taken care of is that pantyhose should not have a reinforced toe while wearing them with sandals.
Sheer toe or sandal toe pantyhose in fact make the toes look even more beautiful and sexy. In my view pantyhose especially sheer toe ultra sheers worn with open toe heels/sandals are the ultimate combination.
Those who say you can’t wear pantyhose with sandals are ignorant and missing something.

I can only speak for myself but nothing, and I mean nothing, turns my head quicker as a middle-aged guy than a LADY wearing sheer hose with sandals, it just screams feminine, classy and sexy.

This was much more common in the 70s/80s when I was growing up of course. Perhaps the current generation will feel the same effect seeing a “lady” wearing jeans and trainers when they’re middle-aged – joke 😉

Great and helpful blog! Actually, the 70% male and 30% female of me have been wearing ultra-sheers of the “invisible” kind in open-toe sandals under quite short shorts and been out in supermarkets and shopping malls. Guess! No-one took demonstrated notice nor took me aside and made comments, neither objected in body language nor outspoken nor told their children to look somewhere else. And if somebody really did notice what i was wearing they seemed to tolerate it. O.k., this is Sweden. So guys, , do try, don’t anticipate pitying smiles or distasteful grins, times are changing and there are fewer faces to lose. A macho or male chauvinist wouldn’t do it, those who’re not get more and more welcome. Just act naturally and don’t be nervous so it shows.

    • UK Tights

      Hi Alan,
Maybe try something simple, such as an elegant all-black look. If you have a leather skirt, you can pair them with a silk or satin blouse and heels, for a smart outfit, or a plain cardigan and cosy boots, for a more casual look.
      We hope that helps.
      Kind regards,

dear uk tights…another question…..last week when I got the red tights…it was in a multi coloured pack with 6 colours….pink nude yellow black red and orange!!!!! the only person av saw in orange/peach tights was frankie from the saturdays in there video up…..so am guessing that black would be the best to go with them!!! HELP never wore orange tights before xxx

    • UK Tights

We’d go for neutral colours: black, white, dark grey, dark green, military green, chocolate, navy, camel, beige, ivory…
If it’s a bright orange, it can be paired with some fuchsia and cobalt blue, but make sure the base of your outfit is neutral (for instance, orange tights + cobalt blue bag… and everything else black)
      We hope that helps.
      Kind regards,
      UK Tights team

  • alan

  • alan

UK Tights does the orange tights go with my navy pleated mini skirt?? my best pal lisa doesnt think so!!! shes currently training me on colour co ordination xxx xx

    • UK Tights

They should go well together, but it’s best to go for some minimal clothing with you wear bright colours, as they get all the attention anyway. It’s best not to overdo it.
      Thanks,

Interesting article as I had never thought about whether or not I should wear pantyhose with open toed sandals. These shoes would be uncomfortable to wear with just bare feet.
