Is there any design or motif more recognisable or more fashionable than the humble polka dot? There are bigger and more flashy designs and patterns, for sure, but are any as recognisable, charming and as culturally significant as the polka dot? We don't think there are to be quite honest. What really impresses us about the polka dot is its history. It was first documented in fashion magazines in the 1920s in the US, but it is a great deal older than this. In the 1860s it appeared in paintings and still life works of art. The polka dot is simply one of the most beautiful and timelessly popular designs in the world of fashion. Polka dot tights are perhaps the most popular classic style of tights in the world. They have a certain retro appeal that make them a staple amongst lovers of pin up, rockabilly or flapper girl fashion. If you like classic looks from the Roaring Twenties or something more racy still from the days of Grease the musical, look no further than polka dot tights. They are simply fantastic for evoking an old school feel that everyone recognises. People often don't associate clothes with periods, such as blue jeans which are seen as the staple casual garment today, but started out as the clothing choice of ranchers, miners and outdoorsman types. Before that, denim was actually a tent fabric, but you wouldn't think it. The same goes for the t-shirt, which began life as an undergarment for soldiers. It was for men only, and never to be worn on its own, but under uniforms. They are ideal for parties and get togethers and, as they are so expressive compared to other patterns, they are great for showing off your own ideal sense of style and add a personal touch to your outfits.
